Thanks to the Miracle on Black and Gold Street, Crewsmas wasn’t ruined by a poor second half performance by Columbus. Gyasi Zardes calmly walked up to the spot in stoppage time and gave us a 3-2 victory to celebrate the day. The win extends the Crew’s regular season unbeaten streak to 12 games dating back to August 2017. The Massive is now 2-0 on the year, top of the table, and heading out to Philadelphia for Matchday #3 against the Union.
Philly is 1-0, defeating New England on opening day 2-nil. Talon Energy Stadium has been a bit of a house of horrors for the Black and Gold the last few years with the last win coming in 2014. Philadelphia is lead by F CJ Sapong, M David Accam, and M Alejandro Bedoya. Making it even harder we might see the debut of their coveted Designated Player signing Czech International Borek Dockal as their attacking midfielder. This is a team with a lot of speed up top. With the way Columbus likes to push their outside backs up, the Union can exploit the space the Crew leave behind on the counter. Jonathan Mensah and Lalas Abubakar will need to stay focused and compact to keep the Philly attack in front of them.
The game is at 2pm and can be seen on CW Columbus. There will be a contingent of NorOnTour on hand for the game. Anyone who is going to the match is suggested to park in Lot A and enter through the River Gate Entrance. If you find yourself last minute wanting to go to Philly for the game please contact Dannon Anderson for tickets. The supporter groups will of course be at their respective home bars if you want to catch the game with fellow supporters. You’ll find Murder’s Row and GCGBAGs at Endeavor Brewing, HSH at Hendoc’s and Crew Union at 4th Street.
The Crew’s next home match is 3/24 against DC United and tickets are up on the shop for the game.
